Back to the Hospital

Well, Caroline decided to break Mommy and Daddy in as parents at the day 9 mark. After Daddy went to work, she woke up groggy and listless, so Mommy checked her temperature and it was 101.5 degrees. Her pediatrician looked at her and determined she should go to the Caritas Hospital in Norwood where they did a bunch of tests to determine if it was a virus or something more serious. After spending the night at Norwood Hospital, the nurses and doctors were concerned it was potentially meningitis, so Caroline was transferred, via ambulance, to Boston Children's Hospital. The nurses and doctors at Children's were amazing (they were fantastic at Norwood as well, especially giving her immediate and urgent care), and they quickly assessed that it was probably not meningitis. After a 36 hour stay at Children's (including 12 hours in the neonatal ICU), her cultures came back from the labs, and it was diagnosed as a viral infection. She was able to come home that night to rest. It took another few days, but she was back to normal after a very stressful ordeal.

One saving grace was that Grandma and Grandpa Heilman were already visiting, thus were able to provide us with lots of care and support. Between that and Grandma Boyer having everyone praying back in Pennsylvania, we were able to get through it relatively unscathed. Below are some pictures from our time at Children's.
